The "curse gap" in the TEKS

The TEKS “curse gap” (relating to the “curse of knowledge) is evident, and is undeniable.

The table illustrates a keyword query search over the combined TEKS paragraphs of “Chapter 111. Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Mathematics Subchapter C. High School” focusing on the four common secondary mathematics courses offered as the “typical” college preparation path for secondary mathematics students. The far left columns indicate the keywords searched through the curriculum document and the columns successively to the right indicate the frequency of the occurances of the keywords broken down by the four courses.

Figure 3.12: (TEA,2015) The above TEKS are well aligned with this example on logarithmic tables. The related TEKS, and the “curse gaps” (indicated by the “*”, “+”, “$” , “Note” exceptions), demonstrate TEK alignments and flaws. And, in bold and underlines, there exist the ever consistent number sense TEK that can be traced back to Texas Kindergarten.
